Steve Savage joins Absolute for title challenge
Steve Savage has joined Absolute
Racing for the 2007 season after
a stunning debut test at the
end of last season. Steve got
close to the circuit record
at Snetterton on a cold October
day last year and smashed his
previous best by a number of
seconds.
Steve said "The car was
amazing and was a lot easier
to drive than my car this season.
I felt this year that I had
to drive at 11/10ths to get
it to go fast and that leads
to mistakes. With the Absolute
car it was so nice to drive
and easy to get time out of
it. The set up was perfect.
Team boss Chris Hodgen said
"Steve asked to have a
go in the Gulf car to see if
his lack of real pace was down
to him or the car he has been
driving in 2006. I knew he was
quick because every time we
had a wet race Steve would be
on the front row but when it
was dry he would be way back"
So I was as interested as he
was to see how quick he could
be. But I never expected him
to be as quick as he was!!!
Steve was very close to the
lap record and we worked on
a couple of changes that will
make him and the car quicker
again. One of the main benefits
Steve seems to have is his consistency.
He was lapping within a tenth
or two lap after lap. Steve
got out of the car and you could
just see his smile!!"
Steve agreed to Join Absolute
Racing very soon after and the
team began early preparation
for the 2007 season. The car
is going to be completely overhauled
including a rebuilt engine,
gearbox and new pretty much
everything else. We have also
worked with a company in the
USA on some aerodynamic developments
which should make the car even
faster.
Please check back to see how
Miguel and Steve get on throughout
2007.
