Oulton Park - Home advantage..

For most of the season Absolute Racing have had to travel all over the country to get to the circuits, but for round 13 of the Championship we were at our local track, the picturesque Oulton Park in Cheshire. Unfortunately Steve Savage couldn't make testing due to work commitments so team owner Chris Hodgen had the car set up duties for the 77 Bee Bee paint car. Miguel and Lee also tested to get used to one of the most difficult and daunting tracks in the country.

Testing went well with only a slight problem with a water pipe breaking on Lee's car, which was fixed by the commitment Demon Tweeks Guy Minshaw showed to our Championship challenge when he personally delivered the spare part to our garage to allow Lee to make the grid - Thanks Guy!!

With home advantage the team were upbeat about getting a good result in qualifying. But we were not ready for what happened... We didn't just get 1st and 2nd on the grid, but we annihilated the rest of the championship with Steve Savage on pole by nearly 3 seconds from any other non-Absolute car. Lee was in 2nd place still over 2 seconds faster than the 3rd place driver, Jonathan Weston Taylor. Absolute's 3rd driver Miguel Pinto Coehlo was struggling to get to grips with Oulton Park and would start the race in a disappointed 6th place but more importantly a massive 6 seconds slower than Steve. Work needed to be done in the race!!!

The Race -

If Miguel ever needed a good start to help his charge up the grid, then this was the one, but unfortunately the much talked about magic starts that Miguel was used to doing didn't happen today as he lost a place to Malcolm Scott. At the front of the field Steve and Lee disappeared into the distance as the traded the lead a number of times. By lap 4 they were already over 6 seconds ahead of Steve's main championship rival Chris Kite so Steve backed off to protect his Championship knowing that a 2nd place was enough to pick up his first title. Lee powered on and broke the lap record on lap 7 as he set about his task of impressing sponsors for next season. Steve settled into his pace in control of 2nd and Miguel still struggled back in 6th place.

This was Absolute Racings most dominant race weekend with 1st and 2nd on the grid and 1st and 2nd on the grid with lap record to go with it. Well done lads!!!!

It wasn't until we returned to the Absolute Racing HQ that we realised that Steve Savage had won the 2007 British Formula 4 Championship in his first season with the team!!!

Everyone at Absolute Racing would like to thank Steve and all the other drivers who have been in our cars for providing such a great season for us. We have had lots of lows but they have been overpowered by the amount of highs we have had.

Highs -

1) Steve's Championship win

2) First ever team 1,2 at Brands Hatch

3) Miguel's win at Silverstone

4) 7 race wins for the season

5) All drivers who raced up to now have won at least one race.

6) 2 x team 1,2 finishes

7) Testing Chinese A1 GP driver

Lows -

1) Miguel's upright failure at round 1

2) Steve shocks problem at Pembrey
