Silverstone - Best race of the season.

The home of the British Grand Prix was the next stop for Absolute Racing. It was nice to get to a circuit with good facilities although the walk to the old pits was a pain when we were in the main pits.

Testing had gone okay with Lee and Steve only testing in the afternoon as Autosport Magazine were testing Lee's Van Diemen RF07 car for an article on F4, which should hit the shelves the first week in November.

We had a day off on the Saturday as the F4 race was pencilled in for the Sunday… How glad we were when we arrived at the circuit from the hotel to prep the cars the weather was awful, in fact it was a monsoon! I am not sure Avon did extreme wets like F1!!

With the cars prepped and ready to go we were back at the circuit bright and early for official qualifying. The weather was a lot better than Saturday but still damp and with the F4's being first out we had a very important decision to make on what type of tyres we should use. It really was going to be a gamble. Lee and Steve took the decsion to go out on slicks hopeing the track would come to them during the session. Miguel went the other way and went for wets as he didn't think the track would clear in time.

Miguel made the correct tyre choice, although he would be the first one to tell you that he didn't make the most of the opportunity and would start the race down in 8th place. Steve drove the socks of his RF06 to line in 5th on slicks and Lee struggled a little bit with his slick tyres and would line up in 7th, one place ahead of Miguel.

The Race -

The weather had turned for the race and we had a nice dry track to make tyre choice a little easier. All cars started on slicks for round 12 of the 14 round Championship. The green light dropped and 20 F4 cars powered into the ultra fast Copse corner for the first time. At the end of the first lap it was obvious that Miguel had made another amazing start and crossed the line in 2nd place from 8th on the grid!!! It turns out he got a couple of places into Copse but did a brave move around the outside of Becketts to take 4 places in one corner!!! Steve had held position in 5th and Lee had made up a little ground in 6th.

As they crossed the line to start lap 3 Miguel had made a move past lap 1 leader Chris Timms in the MT Motorsport run MG01 Mygale to take the lead of the race. Steve had moved in to 3rd and Lee was up to 5th as the Absolute drivers started to get in to their stride. By lap 6 Miguel was swapping the lead with Timms nearly at every corner and this was allowing the 69 car of Lee Cunningham to catch the pair. Savage had spun under pressure from Chris Kite and was down in 8th place and his title challenge was looking as if it was sinking with the Saturday rain.

By lap 10 Absolute Racing were in 1st and 2nd from 7th and 8th on the grid and this was causing great stress for Team owner Chris Hodgen who was watching the close battle from the pit wall. Chris said, "As soon as Lee got into 2nd place I wanted the race to finish as a 1,2 would have been mega and they were driving really close and I didn't want them to take each other out" Unfortunately as Lee took the lead from Miguel he suffered a mechanically failure as he started the last lap. This was diagnosed as fuel issue as for some reason Lee's car was a lot thirstier than the other 2 cars when it had not been previously. These left Miguel to drive the last circuit and pick up his 2nd win of the season, and the teams 6th win. Steve had a great recovery drive after his spin to only drop a few point to his title rivals with a 5th place finish.
