Snetterton - Time to get back on track..

Absolute Racing headed back to Snetterton for the second time of the season after a mixed weekends racing in Pembrey south Wales. Championship leader Steve Savage had a tough time with shocker issues but Portuguese driver Miguel Pinto Coehlo drove an excellent race to gain his first win of the season and the teams 5th in 9 races.

Testing had gone well and had indicated that the team were back on track with Steve being constantly quickest throughout the afternoon. But qualifying highlighted that we were not quite there with Steve qualifying only 3rd on a track he had already won on in 2007.

Miguel was a good 5th and new driver Lee Cunningham struggled with a down on power engine in 8th after an all night engine change. Cunningham was still upbeat after posting a time in testing that would have put him on pole while trying out Miguel’s car in testing.

The Race

Miguel made his usual cracking start to the race to gain a couple of positions on lap 1 and Steve lost a position to start lap two, 3rd and 5th respectively. Lee had also gained ground as he had deposed of Jonathan Weston Taylor in his Mygale on the opening lap. Steve gained another place on lap 3 and started to put Miguel under pressure as the race started to settle down. As the race moved past the halfway point Steve was put under pressure from 2006 Formula Four Champion Chris Lewis. Lewis eventually got past Steve on the 9th lap and set off in pursuit of Miguel. He gained rapidly as the race drew to a close but Miguel held on to an excellent 3rd place finish. Steve was still safe in a disappointing 5th place and Lee retired on the 9th lap after damaging his wing after battling with Gavin Halls as Lee's spare engine was not proving the most powerful unit on the grid.

Race 2

Steve Savage got back on to the podium with an excellent drive to 2nd place from 5th on the grid in round 11 of the Championship to further enhance his lead at the top of the table. What ever he was up to on the Saturday night did him good as he came back to the circuit on the Sunday as a rejuvenated man!! Miguel didn't quite pull off another amazing start but had a solid drive to 5th place. Lee Cunningham nursed his car home in a disappointing 9th place with his still down on power engine. Absolute will provide a new engine for Lee before the team gets to Silverstone.
