Savage wins on debut for Absolute Racing

Absolute's three cars await the start of the 2007 season
Absolute Racing had a mixed weekend at rounds 1 & 2 of the 750mc Formula 4 Championship at a sunny Snetterton circuit in Norfolk over Easter weekend.

Steve Savage ended the weekend 2nd in the Championship chase after a near perfect weekend with pole position, 2nd in race 1 and a much deserved first career race win in the 2nd race of the weekend. Unfortunately the weekend was the opposite for Absolute Racing's other Class A runner Miguel Pinto Coehlo when a strong 3rd place was lost when a rear upright let go and ended Miguel's weekend prematurely. The only positive the team can take from Miguel's race weekend is the belief that Miguel has the pace to win races in 2007 and could mount a championship challenge towards the end of the season.

Team boss Chris Hodgen said "It was a strange weekend really as the joy for Steve was cancelled out with the disappointment for Miguel. We don't know at this stage why the upright failed but we will look into it before the next round at Cadwell Park. Miguel has raced at Cadwell before so we will do our best to give Miguel the best car possible. We have a good set up for Cadwell as I got pole by a large margin last year so we will work hard to repeat that. We will then work hard to get both drivers on the podium for both races.

At this stage it is unsure as to whether Absolute Racings 3rd driver, Andrew Kluge will be making the short journey over the M62 to Cadwell after making his race debut at Snetterton over the weekend. Andrew finished a very credible 15th and 16th out of 26 drivers.

Chris said "Snetterton was a case of getting experience for Andrew and he did everything we asked from him and more. Considering it was his first ever race weekend, he ended up with a fastest lap only 1 second away from the fastest lap of his class.

Andrew can't make the rounds after Cadwell at Brands Hatch so we may see him at Mallory.

It is going to be a long season and Snetterton proved to be a long and tough challenge for the team after our main engineer Scott Preston was rushed in to hospital with a heart issue and missed the whole weekend recovering, but we were still able to come home with a win. It made everything worthwhile when we saw the smile on Steve's face after the 2nd race. Steve was well beaten in the first race as a poor getaway left him with too much to do but his pace in race 2 was just awesome. His move around the outside of past Champion Barry Pritchard at corum was great to watch even if it didn't quite work out. But a brave move at the esses, left Steve with just 2 corners to defend to take his first win ever. Lets hope there is more to come during the 14 race Championship.
