Steve Savage shook down the freshly rebuilt Gulf RF06 car at a sunny Oulton Park on the 2nd March 2007. The car has undergone a major rebuild from a bare chassis over the winter including a new rebuilt engine and gearbox. The test was more a systems check after the major development work and the team wanted to check a number of new developments made.

Steve managed some consistent laps in the morning as he blew off the cobwebs after 5 months out of the cockpit. He was pleased with the pace of the car and the only technical issue during the test was a cable coming lose on the starter motor.

During the afternoon sessions Steve picked up the pace and started to put in the times that made Absolute believe that he will be a title contender in 2007.

The only blip on the day was a late afternoon crash when Steve tripped up over a much slower Formula Ford at the notorious druids bend destroying the new front wing and nose box in the process.
